What is Surf Frenzy?

Every year, the 26 chapters of the Intra-Fraternity Council at the University of Florida host a philanthropic event that sponsors a charity of their choice. SigEp Surf Frenzy was created 15 years ago as a dance competition between sororities that benefited the Surf Rider Foundation. Due to SigEp’s strong presence on campus, as well as the creativity of the event, Surf Frenzy quickly grew into the largest and most competitive philanthropy on campus. In 2005, SigEp shifted its focus to an area it felt it could have the greatest impact, youth Diabetes.

Since 2005, SigEp has been able to raise over $100,000 dollars for FL Diabetes Camps.

The production

The dance competition is between the 16 Pan-Hellenic sororities on campus. Approximately 40 brothers work to put on a show with over 150 dancers total, and over 1,500 in attendance.

Our purpose

The money raised from Surf Frenzy directly benefits Florida Diabetes Camps. In fact, we are able to fully underwrite the annual Teen Weekend held each January.

At this camp, adolescent with type one diabetes are encouraged to bring friend with them to camp. This way they are both able to have a fun and safe camp experience while learning more about the day-to-day care of this diabetes.

Also, through Surf Frenzy many brothers the opportunity to serve as camp counselors throughout the year. Since SigEp and Camp hooked up back in 2005, we have served at over 25 different camp sessions totaling well over 7,000 hours in community service.

Where you come in

The production itself raises enough money to fully fund the operations of Teen Weekend each year – from food to paintball, it’s all covered. However, without scholarships, many needy youths are not able to afford the camp. We are asking our alumni, families, and friends to assist us in raising money to send these children to camp.

Last year, ten of our families made tax deductible donations to camp, and in total $1,400 dollars were raised by these families alone. With this money, X different needy children received scholarships to camp.

Our goal this year is to at least double our scholarship donations, and send at least XX well deserving youngsters to Diabetes camp.  We ask for any donation, no matter how small. Please see the included donation form.

“Surf Frenzy is by far the most competitive philanthropy on campus. We practice and prepare for the show months in advance! We are glad to support such a great cause at such a fun event.”
