Sigma Phi Epsilon is the nation's largest fraternity. For the last fifteen years, more men have joined Sigma Phi Epsilon than any other college fraternity.
SigEp was founded at Richmond College, now the University of Richmond, on November 1, 1901, based on the Cardinal Principles of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.
The Fraternity’s mission is “Building Balanced Men.” With these three words, we capture the essence of SigEp’s value to its members: charting a course for men to live their best lives by embracing our cardinal principles of Virtue, Diligence and Brotherly Love and committing to the practice of Sound Mind and Sound Body.
The Florida Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was brought to the University of Florida in 1925 as the 63rd chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon nationally, and the 11th Fraternity at the University. Since that time our chapter has grown into one the largest and most prominent fraternities in the state of Florida.
Typically, Florida Alpha is one of, if not the, largest fraternities at the University of Florida; boasting manpower of nearly 140 brothers. Our chapter house, at 5 Fraternity Row, has been our home since 1955 and holds 64 in house brothers in 34 different rooms.
Athletic excellence is a point of pride for our chapter. We have won four of the last seven President’s Cup fraternity intramural championships. Many of our brothers are a part of club and varsity athletics with members on Club Lacrosse, Club Ice hockey, and Varsity Football.
Our prominence on campus is furthered by brother’s involvement in student organizations. Three of the last 6 student body presidents hail from our chapter. The current student body treasurer and producer of gator growl are also SigEps. We have had brothers inducted into the UF hall of fame for 10 of the last 12 years.
A strong reliance on our founding principles of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love has guided our chapter to excellence at the University of Florida. A commitment to these and living balanced lives will continue to push our chapter forward for many years to come.
